Download the Bulletin as a PDFThank you for your incredibly generous response to last weekend’s missionary appeal by Arlington’s own Father Keith O’Hare. The Banica Mission is receiving almost $12,000 from you through that second collection. Father mentioned the Mission’s website as well as the documentary that was made. If you Googles “Banica” you might not have found anything helpful. Here is where you can find all that and more:
- Banica Mission (Mission page)
- Banica Mission Facebook Page
- Banica Mission Documentary: “Along the Border”
- Banica Mission (Diocese of Arlington page)
- Pontifical Mission Societies (Diocese of Arlington)
I have already made inquiries to see about our parish having a closer relationship with Fr. O’Hare’s work in the Dominican Republic. Hopefully we will be able to host him and help on an annual basis.
The Mission runs an ambulance service. Most times it serves to bring pregnant mothers to the hospital. Many of its beneficiaries are Haitians who cross the border in search of help from the Catholic Church. Father asked if St. John could help defray some of the $3,000 monthly budget, which we will.
Fr. O’Hare and I also discussed the possibility of a parish group volunteering for a week or two next year. I would like to begin planning a Mission Trip at the beginning of the summer of 2014 for parish college students and young adults. If you are interested or know a young person who would be interested, please contact me. We can use the next twelve months to raise money for the trip, improve our Spanish and otherwise get ready for what should be a life-changing experience.
