He has appeared to Mary (John 20, 11-18).
He has visited the Apostles (John 20, 19-23).
He has shown Himself to Thomas (John 20, 24-29). He has been seen by hundreds (1Cor 15,6).
Every time we write the year 2013 we testify that His death and resurrection is the center of human history.
That is just the start. Jesus wants us to tell everyone, the whole world, everyone we know, everyone we meet, every person whom God seeks to delight with the Good News and invite to the eternal banquet of Heaven, which is to say: every living human being.
That is the context for my upcoming meeting with parents on Saturday, April 13 to discuss their children receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. That is the reason for the ordination of Br. Matthew to the priesthood on May 24 and the ordination of our very own Mauricio Pineda to the diaconate on Saturday the 7th of June in the Cathedral of St. Thomas More.
That is why a Mission of St. John was started here in McLean one hundred years ago this September. Nineteen centuries earlier the apostles were told: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age” (Matthew 28, 19-20a). That is still our mission.
Each remaining Saturday of Easter until the Ascension (April 13, 20, 27 and May 4, 11) I will conduct evangelization training from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Adult Ed Room with the help of a few experts. The topics will include the Existence of God and the Divinity of Christ, Marriage & Contraception, Protestantism & Orthodoxy, Islam & Mormonism as well as how to speak with non- believers, how to appeal to Natural Law instead of Papal Magisterium. I hope that these sessions will lay the ground work for a robust and ongoing evangelization effort that will commence the weekend of Pentecost (May 18-19). Please come to some of the sessions even if you cannot come to all of them. They will be recorded and all the materials distributed will be available online at the parish website as well.
God bless you!
