O come let us adore Him! The words jump from our hearts effortlessly at this time of year. This year I urge everyone at St. John the Beloved to put those words into practice.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is no more complicated than staring at a beautiful newborn baby, whispering words of love and allowing yourself to be watched by a pair of bright, searching eyes.

For those of us who only visit Church for Sunday Mass, please considering making an additional visit at some point in the week. More powerful than praying at home or surrounded by nature, being near the Blessed Sacrament makes our quiet sitting, our reciting the Rosary, our meditating on Sacred Scripture all the more mystical. Jesus is the Word made Flesh.

On our way past a Church, making the sign of the cross reminds us that the Incarnation is really present under the roof of a Catholic Church wherein lies an altar of sacrifice, a tabernacle and Our Eucharistic Lord.

Those accustomed to prayer will benefit from making a regular Holy Hour, perhaps starting just once a month or once a week. It would compliment well the regular date the keeps marriages healthy and fresh. If you need help with prayers, be sure to put iBreviary and/or iPeita on your smartphone.

Our weekly Wednesday hours of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and our monthly First Friday 24-Hour Adoration are badly in need of more souls who can commit to an hour of communal solitude with Jesus. The menfolk of St. John are invited to carry the load during the night hours.

Our annual Forty Hours Devotion will bring to St. John the great author and preacher Fr. George Rutler! He will be with us March 16, 17 and 18. Please mark your calendars.

God bless you and your family this New Year!

Fr. Christopher J. Pollard
