As our college students go back to school it is also the time of year the our seminarians resume their studies along with all our women religious in formation. We keep all of them in our prayers, especially those whose home is St. John the Beloved:

Br. John Francis
Congregation of St. John

Elder Maldonado
Diocese of Arlington

Abbé Benjamin Norman
Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest

Charles Pavlick
Diocese of Arlington

Mauricio Portillo
Diocese of Arlington

It has been quite a few years since someone who grew up in St. John parish decided to enter the seminary or the convent like Sr. Kathryn James Hermes F.S.P. of Daughters of St. Paul and Sr. Immaculata Francis O.P. of the Dominican Sisters of the St. Cecilia Congregation.

Let's work and pray and fast for a flourishing of vocations from our ranks! I see the faces of future vocations all the time.

Promoting vocations means more than encouraging someone to fill out an application form. We need to live and promote the virtues of faith, charity and chastity. Promoting virginity is especially important. Virginity is not simply the awkward beginning of each human life and the curse of those who are not able to marry. A hallmark of the ancient Christian way of life is celibacy voluntarily chosen over the beautiful and sacramental good of marriage (Mt 19,11-12; 1Cor 7,7-9.25- 40) as well as the occasional celibacy of Christian married couples (1Cor 7,5).

St. John the Beloved, pray for us!

God bless you.

Rev. Christopher J. Pollard

p.s. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! To all the Knights of Columbus who did the cooking, all the good people who brought a side or dessert and everyone else who made the Assumption BBQ a smashing success. The numbers were right. The weather was perfect. The Gift Basket Raffle raised enough money to pay for the event and then some!
