The wisdom in the infelicitous phrase makes it worth repeating.
My trip to Germany for my uncle's funeral occasioned many beautiful graces. Being able to see his face one last time was a gift. Thank you all for your prayers for him. Please continue to pray for my Onkel Herbert and all of his loved ones.
I departed for Frankfurt hours after accompanying Fr. Rutler to Union Station. What a wonderful 40 Hours we experienced! It was indelible. Thank you to everyone who made that possible: our Sacristan and servers, our Master of Music and singers as well as all of you adorers. The snow proved to be little obstacle to so many of you. God bless you.
If you were unable to attend Father's homilies you can find them online by going to the parish website and clicking on the individual homilies. You also may find his thoughtful sermons on the parish's growing account at Livestream: new.livestream.com/StJohnMcLean.
In the future I hope you will be able to watch and/or hear lectures and seminars, homilies and Masses. If you haven't heard our choirs you are in for a treat! Every word of wisdom and every beautiful melody we hear lifts the soul and brings it closer to heaven.
The converse is true as well. Bishop Loverde's latest publication is worth your reading. It is an update to his pastoral letter on pornography. The several hundred copies which the Diocese sent us went like hot cakes in the parish lobby. Please be on the lookout for more copies. The cultural environment in which we live considers impurity to be an unavoidable part of the air we breathe. It is worth the effort to re-sensitize ourselves to the issue. You can read the Bishop's letter Bought with a Price online. Click on the "Read Bought with a Price Online" button at http://www.arlingtondiocese.org/purity/pastoral_letter.aspx.
Remember, once you've seen something, you can't unsee it.
Just after been baptized your senses were blessed: "May [Jesus] soon touch your ears to receive His Word, and your mouth to proclaim His faith, to the praise and glory of God the Father." May He bless our eyes as well. Amen.
Fr. Christopher J. Pollard
