Download the Bulletin as a PDFOn July 25 the Church celebrates Saint James the Apostle, the other son of Zebedee, the elder of the Boanerges, the "sons of thunder" (Mark 3,17). He is the Saint James who is honored in Compostela, Spain. Of the two Apostles named "James" he is called "St. James the Greater".
Ironically, of the two disciples of Our Lord named "John", Saint James the Greater's brother, our very own Saint John the Beloved, is the lesser of the two. The greater of the holy Johns is of course he than whom no one greater has been born of woman (Matthew 11,11 / Luke 7,28). That would be Saint John the Baptist.
Here are the three in one of their early group portraits:
The winner of the candy bar was able to recall that July 25 is also the Feast Day of St. Christopher.
Saint John the Baptist, pray for us!
Saint John, pray for us!
Saint James, pray for us!
Saint Christopher, pray for us!
All you holy martyrs, pray for us!
God bless you!

P.S. At Confirmation I took St. John Bosco as a patron saint and so took another middle name. Don Bosco had a special devotion to St. John the Apostle.
