I think the Pope just made it a mortal sin not to tell your neighbors about the Fall Festival. But I could be wrong. The English language version of his decree has not been finalized.
Welcome Catholics Home!
The Holy Spirit is always nudging people back to the sacraments. Are you always on the look out for them? Don’t nag. Just the same... don’t chicken out when you have an opportunity.
No chicken will be cooked and no chickens will be served at the Fall Festival, which is this weekend!
Perhaps you heard about the Pope making some changes to the annulment process. It is true. And I am not using my sarcastic voice. Of the modifications to Canon Law enacted on September 8th (Happy Birthday, Mary!) the most significant will eliminate the automatic review by a higher court of any and every annulment that has been granted. That means that the Arlington Tribunal will no longer have to wait three to six months for its annulments to be approved by another ecclesiastical tribunal. That is good news. There also is a provision considerably expediting a small number of annulment petitions which are cut and dry in which neither of the petitioner nor the respondent objects to the declaration of nullity.
If you want to learn more about it, come to the Fall Festival and ask Father Pollard or Father Sina.
Oh, these changes to Canon Law will take effect on December 8th, which is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (Happy First Day of Being, Mary!) and it is also the first day of the Year of Mercy.
Our parish commitment to have a party in honor of every extra Holy Day of Obligation has us looking forward at November 1, All Saints Days… which is a Sunday this year. So, with all the extra dough that you would have put into the basket at an extra Mass (that was my semisarcastic voice) I invite you to play in or become a sponsor of the Second Annual Msgr. T.P. Scannell Cup Golf Tournament the next day (that’s my totally serious voice). Last year we raised $7000 for the Priest Retirement Home. Sign up at bit.ly/ScannellCup2015. Also, set aside December 8 for Holy Day Mass and the evening of Sunday, December 6 for Lessons & Carols in honor of the Immaculate Conception. It will be lovely!
God bless you.
Rev. Christopher J. Pollard
P.S. See you at the Fall Festival!
