The Exultation of the Holy Cross, celebrating the glorious discovery by St. Helena, mother of the Roman Emperor, of the wood of the actual cross used in Our Lord’s crucifixion, is always followed the next day by the observance of Our Lady of Sorrows. Even after the Resurrection, even in light of the triumph of Our Lord over sin and death by the shedding of His Blood, there is no way to make the cross all sweetness. We honor His victory by remembering the price He paid for our freedom.

Our Lady of Sorrows

We honor her love by remembering that is was not cheap.

She may not bring the answer we want when we ask her to pray for us to God, but she will accompany us.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help, or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence,
I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy, hear and answer me.
Amen

Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.
