The beautiful program for sacred music at St. John has garnered national attention. The genius behind it has been Mr. David Lang, who came on board at St. John’s about nine years ago. After many months of retooling the parish music program, detailed in his occasional notes in the pages of this previous bulletins, David will be stepping away from his regular duties as Master of Music for St. John the Beloved as of September 21. However David promises not to be a stranger and will be helping the parish with occasional Funerals as well as with the Academy’s Spring Musical.

The fantastic team that has surrounded David will stay intact: Christine Laird, Richard Rice and Elizabeth Black. We will be hiring a new Director/Organist for the Treble Choir. Our Associate Director of Music, Mr. James Senson, who will become the new Director of Music, shared with me his particular appreciation for David:

I am grateful for all David has done not only this music program, but for all of us spiritually through his musical direction. He gave me an opportunity as an organist here at Saint John the Beloved where my time here has resulted in my family's conversion to Catholicism. For this we are blessed and he will be missed.

Mr. Senson served as Associate Choir Director and Organist at Saint John the Beloved Church from 2009- 2012. He is a graduate of the University of Miami where he received a Bachelor of Music in Performance. Prior to moving to Northern Virginia, he taught at the Governor's School for the Arts in Norfolk, served as rehearsal accompanist for the Virginia Symphony Orchestra Chorus, and worked at the Virginia Opera as an Education Tour Director. James also has a Masters in Secondary Education degree with a concentration in Mathematics from Old Dominion University. He has worked for Fairfax County Public Schools since 2009 where he taught Algebra 1 at Mount Vernon High School and Falls Church High School and recently became Testing Coordinator at FCHS.

James and his wife, Melanie, took RCIA classes at Saint Rita last year and received the sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Matrimony. They have one daughter, Juliana Teresa.

God bless you, David.
