Thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, CT, the Knights of Columbus were founded on March 29, 1882 as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity.
The Knights was formed to help support Catholic families, especially the young and disadvantaged. The foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world’s foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society.
The St. John the Beloved Knights of Columbus, Council 11806, regularly meet on the first Thursday of the month. If you would like to learn more about the Knights of Columbus at St. John the Beloved, you can contact Grand Knight, Gil Perez ah64gunplt@aol.com or (703) 622-1229.
